Design Connections Event

Kathleen Black and white headshotWe saw some familiar faces and met new friends at Design Connections.  The event brings together designers and manufacturers who are passionate about healthcare design for two days of conversation about how the built environment can promote healing. The designers were especially receptive to the idea of using light to help support circadian rhythm, sleep, health…and even dating!  During a panel discussion, a young woman said she was dating three different men, a doctor with normal lighting and two men who had tried to impress her with multi-colored LED lamps in the bedroom.  My advice was, “Forget about the lighting – go with the doctor!”

It was great to meet in an informal setting to share knowledge, inspiration and lessons learned with experienced healthcare architects, interior designers and manufacturers.  One interesting thing I learned was while many hospitals prefer a warm hospitality look, hospitals known for research might prefer a more clinical look.   The event ended with an awards ceremony. Visa Lighting was proud to accept the award for “Best Overall Design Strategy in Healthcare”  A big thanks to the attendees for voting for us and to the hosts: Interiors and Sources and nGAGE events.
